For years emails have been passed around claiming that forwarding email will generate money for your or some popular cause. One of the more popular ones claims that if you forward a message Bill Gates or Microsoft will send you money. You can read more about this at Snopes:

Now it looks like urban legend becomes reality. A new initiative called i’m from Windows Live™ Messenger will share advertising revenue from the conversations you start with various charities.
When I first saw the announcement I thought it was a variation of the urban legend I mentioned above. But this appears legitimate.
This is bringing the Google AdSense model to the masses. Adsense shares advertising revenue with websites in exchange for the website displaying the ad on their site.
